Tuesday, 18th April
My last day! I have had lots of meetings
today so 6m operation has had to be wedged in between. However, I think you will see that
I have done a successful job! Not much in Europe today but I had a good opening
to South Africa working ZR1TRD, ZS1AGF, ZR1L, and ZR1EV in the morning.
Later in the day I was calling and
calling W5UWB who couldn't hear me and then I heard Pat, W5OZI at 559 and he
came straight back to me. I then I worked Bill, W3XO/5, K5NA and AA5XE. And then
came a QSO that was a great pleasure; I was called by
W6JKV/5 who I worked at
599. After this W3XO/5 called me again for 59 SSB QSO.
I managed to catch up with W5UWB later I am pleased to say.
I was hoping that later in the day I
would work California but this was not to be. It was a repeat of the previous
Wednesday. I heard several calling at workable strength, including W6CPL, but they
could not hear me. An amplifier would have made all the difference I think. All in all it was an excellent
day but my last unfortunately.

The main road out of
Stanley for Mount Pleasant airport
and Goose Green. The dish in the background is the C&W
earth station and note the deep pothole in the foreground! |
